Over Easy Ham Sandwich
Good evening snowflakes. Ladies and gentlemen of the jury. May I present to you, a sandwich so simple and popular that I question whether or not I should be posting it. But then again I never promised continual posts of revolutionary sandwiching ideas. This sandwich is so simple that the version you see in these photos I actually made on french toast in an effort to take it to the next level.
That next level tasted kinda gross. I don’t suggest going there. This sandwich is simple for a reason.
It just tastes good.
My goal is to have this blog for a while and eventually every person who reads it will come across a sandwich that they make every other day. And that’s fine. I figured, if I have a sandwich I make every other day, no matter how simple, I should probably include it in my musings. So. Here we are.
Plus being different is totally overrated.
Let me just put out there that I can’t stand when people say, “I’m so weird.”
For a few reasons.
First of all, people who are weird don’t know they are weird. And people who say they are weird, want to be weird and are actually perfectly normal. As one person I know said, “people who go around saying they are funny are not funny at all. If you are funny, people tell you that you are funny and that you should be a comic.” This is a very true statement, and because I find them funny, they are right. It’s in the bible.
Also, being ‘weird’ (and I use this term loosely as I don’t mean to offend) is now trendy. Why else would normal, self respecting teenagers be parading around in large neon sunglasses that I have photographs of my mother wearing at my soccer games when I was four? People crave individuality and I completely understand this which is why it makes perfect sense that our very original generation has taken pieces of every decade since I was born and compiled a wardrobe for themselves. I make no judgments.
My point is: don’t claim to be weird. It sets off normal alarms, and being confronted with someone who is normal desperately attempting to be labeled as weird is as awkward as your dad using words like ‘jiggy.’ Don’t do it.
With all that said. Here is the most normal and overly easy sandwich to date. Make it and revel in its delicious humdrumness.
Over Easy Ham Sandwich
Ingredients:
2 Eggs
Jack, Cheddar, Muenster, American (whatever cheese your heart desires)
Tomato sliced
Ham sliced
Butter
Bread, 2 slices
Avocado, thinly sliced (if you are like my second mother, Sabrina, you will want to add avocado to this, as she adds avocado to everything)
Directions:
Put bread in the toaster. Set frying pan over medium heat.
Place 1/2 tbsp. butter into the pan, the crack and place eggs in next to each other. Wait until the whites of the eggs are in fact white and beginning to bubble around the edges. Carefully flip over.
Get your toast out of the toaster. Only let the eggs cook for about a minute on the other side. Remove from pan and place on one side of bread. Sprinkle/place cheese on top of eggs.
Place another 1/2 tbsp. of butter in pan (do not clean or remove pan from heat in between steps). Place slices of ham in skillet. Depending on what type of ham you use this will take a few minutes for a few seconds. If it is thinly sliced you should get it bubbly and brown in a few seconds. Once it starts to smell good and bubbly remove from pan and place on top of eggs and cheese.
Take tomato and place on top of ham. Place avocado on top of tomato. Place other side of bread on avocado. Slice in half. Dip each bite in the runny egg yolks.

Well my teeth are brushed, my jammies are on and I figured I check Facebook one last time before I head off to bed. Now, well I’m off to the kitchen because I have an avocado on the counter that is perfectly ripe and free range chicken eggs from a farm stand in the frig. Who’s says you can’t eat breakfast before you go to bed?
I love you. you are the one person who tells me how my sandwiches taste because you actually make the stuff i post about! Let me know how it is
Well I love food. The sandwich was fab. The yolks were the perfect gooeyness and I made it on Whole Foods Black Russian Bread. So this morning it’s just a cup of tea and a lowfat yogurt.
Wow! That looks sooo delicious. It’s heaven! hmmm… soo mouthwatering I would like to try that as well. After seeing that, I am now craving to have one. huh! =) well, it will fit exactly in my stainless steel bento container. Happy. =D
